Intranet redesign

Ideal Standard enlisted Digital Overload to update the design of their intranet and ensure compatibility with their existing content management system.

Client Aims

Ideal Standard is Europe’s leading manufacturer of bathroom fixtures. Based in Belgium, the company provides cutting-edge designer bathroom furniture to customers around the world.

Ideal Standard asked us to create and implement a new look and feel for their intranet: a centralised information hub that allows employees across all countries to communicate and share information. The content available ranges from general company news and event schedules relevant to all staff through to high-level financial information for directors. By bringing together data that was previously accessible only by separate systems, the intranet helps employees at all levels to save time by finding information more quickly.

Our approach

Ideal Standard’s intranet is powered by BEA's Aqualogic User Interaction solution plus Publisher add-on.

The most crucial phase of the project was planning: understanding exactly what design changes the client wanted and establishing whether they would be possible within the Aqualogic system.

We used our findings to guide our strategic partners, Orangutan Studio, as they created design elements that could be integrated into Aqualogic without creative compromise.

Once the client approved the designs, we built modular HTML/CSS templates that allowed each element of the layout to be used and reused in any situation.

Finally, we integrated our templates into Aqualogic and restructured the intranet in line with the client’s specification.

Results

Ideal Standard now has a more attractive, welcoming intranet that enhances both communication and brand values among the company’s several thousand employees. By allowing users to share information quickly and effectively, it has improved the efficiency of internal information sharing and reduced communication errors between departments worldwide.
