SEO Rank Progress - Part 2
It’s certainly been an interesting several weeks. As of this point in time we’re ranked number 1 for our chosen search term of “digital agency norwich”. This seems to be down to two main factors: First of all part one of this blog entry is being indexed at position 1 due to the fact that it contains our search phrase exactly, the second factor seems to be some backlinks which have kicked in (I noticed these through Google’s webmaster tools). I should note that it certainly wasn’t and isn’t our intention to use this blog as a keyword stuffing method.
The blog it would seem is the prime target for backlinks which was predictable. Most of the backlinks we have are coming from web development sites and with this in mind we plan to increase the frequency of our blog posting and hope to develop some useful tools and resources for the development community.
On the 20th December we added our first case study. Case studies are extremely important to us as of course it proves to a potential client that we can do the work, the problem however is that when we work for most of our clients, we do so under their name, and we cannot let their client know who we really are - of course, understandably, this means that most of our clients prefer us not to name the brands we’ve been working on. But I digress, the point being that we have some new content for the search engines to index - it seems to have had little effect, as expected, but we hope to add more in the future and grow that section steadily.
Here’s a quick breakdown of what we noticed over the past few weeks:
- 11th December - Added “Norwich” keyword in to title for Contact page
- 17th December - Page 12 for “digital agency”
- 20th December - Added first case study, content of homepage changed and new page for latest work added
- 24th December - Page 7 for “digital agency”
- 29th December - ranked 1st in Google for “digital agency norwich”, dropped to page 10 for “digital agency”
- 31st December - dropped to page 11 for “digital agency”
So where do we go from here?
Given that we’ve reached number one for our chosen search terms, it’s time to set a new goal. After some discussions (and given the amount of work we have on) we’ve decided to focus on increasing our rank for “digital agency“. Due to the competition for this search term and given how well established many of the companies focusing on this term are, it’s surely going to be a lot trickier to climb the ranks. We plan on increasing backlinks and blog activity as mentioned earlier, but also we’ll be looking to get some exposure from industry related e-zines and will be altering our forum posting behaviour slighly.
If you have any comments or tips and tricks you’d like to offer then we’d love to hear them!
James.
